Cecilia Vicuña is a Chilean artist, poet and filmmaker whose practice connects visual art, language, performance and ecological thought. She is widely known for fragile installations, suspended quipus, small ‘precarios’ made from found materials and poetic actions that respond to land, water, memory and Indigenous knowledge. Her work often begins with simple substances such as wool, thread, sticks or discarded objects, then expands into collective and symbolic forms. These materials carry histories of labour, displacement and communication, while their vulnerability reflects environmental and political instability.
Vicuña’s current activity confirms the continuing international relevance of this long-running practice. Her exhibition Reverse Migration, a Poetic Journey was presented at the Irish Museum of Modern Art through July 2026 and included Aran Quipu, a large installation made with local wool and developed in dialogue with Irish makers. Her official website also lists Quipu Gut at Pérez Art Museum Miami through August 2026. Across these projects, Vicuña links Andean textile traditions with exile, feminism, climate urgency and shared ancestry. The work remains both intimate and monumental, using poetry and material gesture to ask how cultural memory can survive violence, migration and ecological loss.
