Philippe Shangti

Philippe Shangti is a French photographic artist based in Andorra whose staged images combine elaborate sets, fashion styling and direct written messages. He began developing his public practice in Saint-Tropez and now works from a studio in La Massana. Photography remains central, but his projects also extend into sculpture, video, live performance and installation. Recurring subjects include consumer excess, drugs, pollution, animal protection, beauty standards and social judgement. Rather than presenting glamour as a neutral surface, Shangti uses saturated colour, theatrical poses and luxury codes to expose the pressures and contradictions that sit behind them. He represented the Principality of Andorra at the 2019 Venice Biennale with The Future Is Now, an environmental project addressing the consequences of human behaviour.

In 2026, Shangti expanded this visual language through Philippe Shangti, The Future 2320, a feature-length film produced with artificial-intelligence imagery and integrated 3D elements. The work anchors Luxury Futuristic World, an immersive exhibition at the former Hostal Valira in Escaldes-Engordany, open from 7 April to 20 December. Static images are paired with augmented-reality interactions, allowing digital figures and scenes to enter the visitor’s phone screen. The project continues his interest in technologically enhanced spectacle while shifting the focus towards hybrid bodies, automation and the boundary between photographic construction and synthetic image-making.
