Amira Medunjanin is a Bosnian singer from Sarajevo whose work centres on sevdah, the song tradition of Bosnia and Herzegovina. She learned sevdalinke from her mother and developed an approach that treats the repertoire as a living oral form rather than a preserved object. Her performances give close attention to language, breath and narrative, allowing longing, tenderness and grief to move through intimate arrangements and an immediately recognisable voice.
Across recordings including Amulette, Damar, Ascending and Homeland, Medunjanin has carried sevdalinka into new musical contexts while keeping its emotional and storytelling core in focus. Her official biography describes a sustained search for the form’s expressive possibilities, and concert presenters recognise her for joining traditional Balkan melodies with contemporary interpretation. This balance between inherited material and individual phrasing has made her an internationally visible voice for sevdah.
Her 2026 schedule remains active across Europe. On 15 October she appears as the special guest of Zoran Sings Arsen at Zagreb’s Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall. Further dates include Zorlu PSM in Istanbul on 24 October, Trogir on 6 November, Sarajevo on 22 November, Bitola on 25 November and Belgrade on 4 December. The itinerary extends a touring year that has already included concerts in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Sweden, Norway, Germany, Montenegro and Serbia.
