Christos Papadopoulos

Christos Papadopoulos is a Greek choreographer born in 1982 whose work examines how bodies organise themselves through pulse, repetition and collective attention. He studied political science in Athens, theatre at the National Theatre of Greece Drama School and dance and choreography at SNDO in Amsterdam. A founding member of The Lion and the Wolf, he emerged internationally with Elvedon and Opus, selected by Aerowaves, then developed ION, Larsen C, Mellowing and Mycelium for partners including Onassis Stegi, Dance On and the Lyon Opera Ballet.

His precise choreography often begins with minimal physical material and lets rhythm reveal social relationships. Bird flocks, fish shoals, classical music and glacial movement have served as structures for works in which individual dancers remain distinct while forming a larger, constantly changing body. This attention to synchrony made Larsen C the winner of Sadler’s Wells’ Rose International Dance Prize in 2025.

In 2026, My Fierce Ignorant Step continued an international tour across three continents. Produced by Onassis Stegi, the piece links sonic memories of Papadopoulos’s Greek childhood with breath, voice and communal motion. Performances were scheduled in Shanghai on 16–17 October, Taipei on 22–24 October and Montreal on 28–31 October. The touring work brings his investigation of collective movement into an exuberant register, balancing exacting group composition with the feeling that each performer can surface inside the chorus.
