- Alan Lucien Øyen is a Norwegian choreographer, director and writer from Bergen whose work fuses dance, theatre and film. After performing with Carte Blanche and Pretty Ugly Dance Company, he founded winter guests in 2006, an international company creating English-language works in which spoken text, everyday gesture and highly detailed movement share the stage. Since 2013 he has also worked as house choreographer with the Norwegian National Ballet.
His practice builds narrative performances from interviews, memories and collaborative improvisation. Productions including Coelacanth, Bon Voyage, Bob, Cri de Cœur and The American Moth move between intimate confession and large-scale stage images, often questioning how people construct identity, truth and belonging. Øyen’s cross-disciplinary approach has brought commissions from Tanztheater Wuppertal, Paris Opera Ballet and major opera and dance institutions.
In October 2026, Øyen directed The Wild Duck at the Norwegian National Opera & Ballet in Oslo, running from 15 to 18 October. His Antigone, created with current and former Tanztheater Wuppertal artists, continues touring at National Taichung Theater on 31 October and 1 November. These engagements extend an active year that also included Still Life in Japan and Underdog at Staatstheater Mainz.
