MAREUNROL’S

MAREUNROL’S is the Riga-based interdisciplinary artist duo formed by Mārīte Mastiņa-Pēterkopa and Rolands Pēterkops. Working between visual art and design, they treat fashion as a narrative medium rather than a purely functional system. Their practice moves across textile and fabric sculpture, installation, video, sound, drawing, photographic collage, and costume design for opera and theatre.

The duo’s projects use magical realism, scenography, and material experimentation to examine identity, collective imagination, and the social life of dress. MAREUNROL’S has exhibited internationally at venues and events including kim? Contemporary Art Centre, La Gaîté Lyrique, Casino Luxembourg, RIBOCA 2, and the Prague Quadrennial. Their 2024 exhibition Invisible Exercises was nominated for Latvia’s Purvītis Prize, while works and garments by the duo are held by the Latvian National Museum of Art.

In 2026 MAREUNROL’S represents Latvia at the 61st Venice Biennale with Untamed Assembly: Backstage of Utopia, presented at the Arsenale from 9 May to 22 November. Developed with artist Bruno Birmanis and archives of Riga’s Untamed Fashion Assemblies, the installation turns clothing racks, textile sculptures, birds, video, and sound into a backstage architecture. It revisits experimental fashion culture of the 1990s to consider freedom, fragile political transition, invisible labour, and the possibilities of collective invention.
