Mladen Bundalo is a Bosnian interdisciplinary artist, filmmaker and author who lives and works in Brussels. Born in Prijedor in 1986, he studied at the Academy of Arts in Banja Luka and the Faculty of Fine Arts in Brno, focusing on video, multimedia and performance. His practice brings together film, photography, drawing, installation and artist books in psycho-geographical travelogues and auto-ethnographic objects. Rooted in his own experience of diaspora, the work examines how belonging, migration, economic value and uncertainty are registered in spaces, documents and everyday objects. Rather than treating home as a fixed location, he approaches it as an unstable process shaped by memory, movement and political and economic forces.
In 2026, Bundalo represents Bosnia and Herzegovina at the 61st Venice Biennale with Domus Diasporica, on view at Palazzo Malipiero from 9 May to 22 November. Developed across film, photography, drawing and site-specific installation, the project asks how leaving one country alters the meaning of home and identity. Domestic furniture, photographic material and modest display structures turn the pavilion into an environment where intimacy and geopolitics overlap. Its title joins the Latin domus with the diasporic condition, pointing to the tension between rootedness and dispersion. By converting autobiography into an open-ended spatial narrative, Bundalo invites visitors to consider relocation not as a single rupture but as a continuing negotiation among attachment, loss, transition and regeneration.
