Predrag Djaković is a Serbian-Czech painter and multidisciplinary artist based in Prague. Born in 1964 in Derventa, then Yugoslavia, he studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague. His practice moves between painting, collage, sculpture, installation and music, often using historical material to examine memory, conflict and displacement. Monumental archival panels assemble photographs, newspapers, maps, financial documents and other found fragments into dense visual fields. Rather than arranging them as a chronological record, Djaković treats the archive as a subjective construction in which private lives and global events remain entangled. His paintings combine expressive colour, symbolic forms and references to literature, mythology and jazz.
In 2026, Djaković represents Serbia at the 61st Venice Biennale with Through Golgotha to Resurrection, on view at the Giardini from 9 May to 22 November. The installation brings together more than 17,000 documents from over 80 countries, over one hundred vintage suitcases, and a video featuring his own piano composition, Nocturne in A Minor. These elements connect the violence of twentieth-century history with the experience of migration and the uncertain possibility of renewal. The project extends his long-term engagement with archives while shifting it into an immersive environment where images, objects and sound invite visitors to consider how collective memory is assembled and transmitted.
