Tanja Vujinović

Tanja Vujinović is a multimedia artist based in Ljubljana whose practice spans virtual environments, generative 3D worlds, spatial installations and electronic sound. Trained in painting at the University of Arts in Belgrade, she also studied at Kunstakademie Düsseldorf and earned a PhD in philosophy and visual culture from the University of Primorska. Since 1997, her work has appeared in museums, festivals and galleries across Europe and beyond.

Vujinović constructs hybrid ecosystems where avatars, synthetic organisms and post-natural landscapes become tools for thinking about identity, perception and collective experience. She works with VR, AR, game engines, 3D modelling and audiovisual composition, but technology is never an end in itself. Her installations operate as speculative gardens: bodies become environments, interfaces become habitats, and play opens a space to examine how computational systems regulate behaviour while also enabling new forms of imagination and coexistence.

Her ongoing 2026 project AVANTGARDENERS brings those ideas together through 4K audiovisual works, digital images, virtual worlds and electronic sound. At KiBela in Maribor, its solo presentation runs from 9 October to 7 November 2026, filling the gallery with mutable bodies, artificial plants, cube-like game objects and clues from an unfinished ecological system. A special version was also shown in Vienna from 23 to 25 October during care & action | ARTS of Change – Change of CODE. The project proposes difference as ordinary and the digital garden as a place of care, experimentation and continuous transformation.
