A Korean contemporary art exhibition at Arthall in Gozo presented work by six artists connected with the international environmental-art platform Nine Dragon Heads.
The exhibition included paintings and audiovisual work by Easy Song, Oh Jeonghee, Bahk Younghoon, Kim Yonghan, Cho Wondeuk and Park Jiin.
An environmental-art network with Korean roots
Nine Dragon Heads began in South Korea in 1996 in response to the destruction of an important historical site.
It developed into an interdisciplinary platform for projects addressing environmental, humanitarian, political and cultural questions.
The initiative emerged during a period of rapid industrial development and political change in South Korea, when a strand of contemporary artistic practice was also taking place outside conventional institutions in rural and natural settings.
From Korea to Malta, Sarajevo and Venice
The Gozo exhibition formed part of the network’s 2024 research and survey activity, which also extended to Sarajevo and Venice.
The broader project considered the relationship between major art events and the places in which they occur, under the theme Nomadic Party.
By presenting six Korean artists in Gozo, the exhibition reflected the group’s long-standing interest in moving artistic practice across geographic and institutional boundaries.
