The North Wirral Rotary Club’s 2023 art exhibition brought work by more than 100 artists to the Floral Pavilion.
The annual event presented hundreds of paintings while raising funds for local charities and good causes.
A regional platform built over nearly two decades
Artists came mainly from Wirral and surrounding areas.
The exhibition included varied subjects and media, with landscapes and scenes connected with the Wirral peninsula proving especially popular with visitors.
All works were offered for sale, and a share of each sale supported the Rotary Club’s charitable activity.
Since the first exhibition at Heswall Library in 2004, the programme had raised more than £70,000.
Remembering Len Kirkham
The 2023 edition was dedicated to Len Kirkham, a founder and influential member of the exhibition committee who had died at the age of 85.
Organisers credited his sustained relationships with participating artists as a major reason the annual event had grown.
The exhibition’s importance lay in its continuity. It gave individual and art-group members a recurring public venue while connecting sales with community fundraising.
The Floral Pavilion allowed work from many local practices to appear together rather than remain dispersed across small studios or private homes.
Unlike a tightly themed juried exhibition, the event reflected the breadth of regional interest in painting and the subjects local audiences chose to collect.
The 2023 display therefore served simultaneously as memorial, marketplace and community exhibition. Its long history showed how a volunteer-led organisation could create durable cultural infrastructure through repeated annual work.
