Through Our Eyes XII at the Carriage Barn Arts Center presented work by more than 120 students from New Canaan High School.
The annual exhibition brought together painting, drawing, photography, mixed media, ceramics and short films from students across different grade levels and visual-arts classes.
Different answers to shared assignments
One of the exhibition’s strengths was the variety of responses produced from similar prompts.
Individual works reflected students’ interests, beliefs and developing artistic skills rather than a single school style.
The addition of ceramics expanded the exhibition into three dimensions, while short films introduced collaborative storytelling alongside more traditional studio practices.
Teachers Maggie Pennoyer, Jennifer Sinski and Kimanne Core supported the programme represented in the show.
A public platform for young artists
Presenting the work at the Carriage Barn placed student projects in a dedicated gallery environment rather than leaving them within classrooms.
The exhibition also included a scholarship award intended to support one student’s further artistic development or education.
Through Our Eyes XII demonstrated how a school exhibition can document more than technical ability. Across its different media, the show captured the freedom, experimentation and personal viewpoints of young artists learning how to present work to a public audience.
